Troop 258 Historian Log

Troop 258 has experienced an amazing and eventful past six months. From going to a variety of activities that have not only brought the scouts closer together but allowed the troop to go on fun campouts and experience. The troop have also been meeting every single week at the Good News United Methodist Church every Tuesday at 7pm to learn about different merit badges, scout skills, and meal planning for campouts!

A major campout the troop went to was Summer Camp at Lost Pines. This was a one week outdoor campout where scouts had 5 merit badge classes and lots of other fun activities like troop open swim, movie night, and hanging out near the trading post. During this week scouts had lots of fun and grew a lot together which was seen when the troop were all helping out to set up a dining fly during the rain, where they preserved and in doing so successfully set it up.

In addition to the monthly campouts, the troop has done lots of service for the community. Whether it is at the campout or through the Eagle Scouts projects, scouts have been giving back to their community quite often. In the past six months troop 258 has gotten 2 new Eagle Scouts, Zach Antezana and Ivan Antezana. For their Eagle project, he built 7 learning gardens at Jim Plain Elementary School in Leander which teaches the students how to maintain a garden and care for plants. And for Ivan’s Eagle Project he designed and built a sensory room for children with autism or children experiencing anxiety/stress at Jim Plain Elementary School in Leander, TX which was helpful as it reduces negative emotions and provides special needs support for students feeling overwhelmed.

Looking ahead, Troop 258 is preparing for upcoming events that promise to build on the momentum of the last six months. As a lot of younger scouts have joined Troop 258, the future of this Troop and their leaders are happening right now and with the continued dedication and enthusiasm of the scouts of Troop 258, the troop will grow both individually and as a group.
